Community Involvement
The YMCA of the Fox Cities collaborates with over 350 organizations to enhance the quality of life in our community and to extend our resources to more individuals and families. The following is a listing of several of these ongoing collaborations:
Neenah Park and Recreation:
YMCA Day Camp, located at Memorial Park in Neenah, provides growth opportunities for over 150 children each week during the summer.
The Y built an open air shelter, while the Park and Recreation developed a campfire circle, bathrooms, storage and ball fields to host the Day Camp.
The YMCA and the Park and Recreation jointly promote Senior Games, Healthy Kids Day and the GREAT Summer Day Camp for teens.
Outagamie Parks Department - Plamann Park:
The Y administers a two-week Day Camp called Camp Hope for special needs children ages 5-16 to enjoy friends, swimming, crafts and fun.
Menasha Senior Center and Thompson Community Center:
The Y offers programs with the Menasha Senior Center and publishes a Senior Program Directory for the communities of Neenah and Menasha.
The Y provides a staff person and programming for seniors at the Thompson Community Center in Appleton.
Winnebago County and City of Neenah:
The YMCA, Winnebago County and the City of Neenah provide a Senior Center and programming for older adults at the Neenah-Menasha YMCA.
Fox Cities Health Care Partnership:
The Y staff, along with Neenah, Menasha, Calumet, Appleton, Winnebago and Outagamie County Health Departments, plan, fund and deliver a free community exercise program called Walk to Win.
Community First Fox Cities Marathon:
The Y partners with the marathon in providing staff and volunteer support.
The Y also organizes the 5K event, vehicle usage and refreshments.
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans:
Thrivent provides and maintains a child care facility on their campus, where the YMCA offers full day Child Care, Preschool, School Age Child Care and Specialty Programming.
Valley Home School Association:
The Y provides facility usage for home school families.
The 7-Up High School home school classes are held at the YMCA.
Valley Home schoolers elementary students are offered various classes facilitated by YMCA staff each semester.
Lawrence University:
The Y is able to use University facilities for programming.
Lawrence students offer one-on-one tutoring to School Age participants at the YMCA
The Y gives memberships to University and Foreign Exchange students.
Special Olympics:
The Y provides facilities for practice and competitions as well as staff that provide coaching support.
Goodwill and ADVOCAP:
The Y administers job training opportunities for special needs individuals.
Best Friends and Big Brothers, Big Sisters:
The Y offers free visits to individuals in these programs.
The Y also hosts events and activities for children on the waiting list for a match.
Fox Valley Technical College:
The Y provides training and internship opportunities for Early Childhood and Sign Language students.
United Way of the Fox Cities:
The United Way provides funding for YMCA programs.
The YMCA staff serves on committees and fundraising events for United Way.
ThedaCare and Visiting Nurses Association:
The Y provides flu shot locations and screenings for Senior programs, Healthy Kids Day, Healthy Senior Days, Women’s Health and Fitness Day and programs at the Thompson Community Center.
Appleton Medical Center:
The Y offers instructors for hospital-based classes.
Doctors and physical therapists refer patients for extended rehabilitation to the YMCA.
St. Elizabeth Hospital and Theda Clark Medical Center:
The Y provides a facility for therapy.
The Y provides Cardiac Rehab Phase Three for Theda Clark.
Doctors and physical therapists refer patients for extended rehabilitation to the YMCA.
Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Shelter, Emergency Shelter of the Fox Valley, Harbor House, Emergency Society:
The Y offers short-term Drop-In Child Care for parents seeking employment, schooling, appointments and housing.
Family Services:
The Y offers group members with memberships. The Y also Hosts events for Family Services clients.
Valley Packaging, Work Adjustment, Tod Stevens, Group Home:
The Y provides group reduced-rate memberships for those with special needs.
Activate America:
The YMCA of the Fox Cities is part of a national effort that engages key community stakeholders to develop strategies that reduce barriers and increase support for healthy living in the Fox Cities.
Current stakeholders involved include: Affinity Healthy Systems, Appleton Area School District, City of Appleton, Community Foundation of the Fox Valley Region, United Way Fox Cities, UW-Oshkosh, ThedaCare and YMCA of the Fox Cities.
